Dentail AI and Entteri Win Inaugural Dentistry Innovation Award in Finland

At the Finnish Dental Convention 2025, Entteri Professional Software and Dentail AI received the first-ever Dentistry Innovation Award — a €10,000 recognition granted by the Finnish Fair Foundation for our AI-powered caries detection, integrated directly into the AssisDent practice management system.

On 6 November 2025, at the Finnish Dental Convention in Helsinki, Entteri Professional Software Oy and Dentail AI received the inaugural Dentistry Innovation Award ("Innovaatiopalkinto"). The €10,000 prize — granted by the Finnish Fair Foundation and presented at Finland's largest dental education event and exhibition — was awarded for the first time this year, recognising our collaborative work on AI-powered dental X-ray analysis.

About the Award

The Dentistry Innovation Award is granted annually by the Finnish Fair Foundation to recognise significant advances in dentistry. Its aims are to celebrate the introduction of new technologies, promote dental research, and raise awareness of the importance of oral health and its impact on overall wellbeing. This year's ceremony was held in connection with the Finnish Dental Convention, whose scientific programme is curated by the Finnish Dental Society Apollonia.

What We Built

The recognised solution automatically analyses dental bitewing images for signs of tooth decay and displays potential caries findings directly inside Entteri's AssisDent practice management software — the Finnish private-sector market leader. Within a few seconds of exposure, the AI surfaces results alongside the patient's existing information, with no need for separate commands or switching between applications.

The feature is available to all AssisDent users as a complimentary option through Romexis Image Cloud, Planmeca's cloud hosting service for dental images and Romexis databases. Approximately 50% of private-sector dental clinics in Finland have already chosen Romexis Image Cloud to store their patient data, and the service is available to users globally with a steadily growing international user base.

Data privacy was a core design requirement. The analysis runs within the same secure cloud environment that hosts Romexis Image Cloud patient images, complying with strict regional requirements across the EU, UK, and Norway — patient data stays within the region and is never transferred to third-party services. Dentail is classified as a medical device.

Designed Around the Clinical Encounter

The approach we took from the outset was to support clinicians without disrupting them. The AI does not replace clinical judgement — it is the dentist's responsibility to validate any findings and record them in the patient record. What it does is reduce the time spent at the computer, so more attention stays with the patient.

When developing the AI solution, the most critical task was to identify which types of tools would genuinely support healthcare professionals during clinical encounters, and which might even disrupt their workflow. It was important to us that the solution would not interfere with the actual clinical work, but rather help reduce the time spent on computer. Our AI solution aims to optimise the dentists' work while supporting patient communication.

What's Next

This award confirms the direction we have been building toward: clinically meaningful AI that earns adoption through usefulness, not marketing. Entteri continues to develop new solutions for AssisDent users, and Dentail AI continues to deepen the detection capabilities that underpin them. We are proud to have this work recognised at the highest level of Finland's dental profession.
